Besides the long name, we actually kind of like the Lotus Evora 414E Hybrid ( we will call it the Lotus Bird Dog for short).

The Lotus Bird Dog is going to be a hybrid version of the Lotus Evora.  Now your probably thinking ” Why the heck is Lotus making a Prius type hybrid?”.

Well there not.  Well not exactly.

The Bird Dog is going to be a lot more like the upcoming Chevrolet Volt than the Toyota Prius.  The idea is that the Evora Bird Dog will be a range extending hybrid.  With two electric motors driving each of the rear wheels.  These two engines will give 204 horsepower (of 207 if you use the Euro metric version) each.  So that adds up to 408 horsepower…..S (or if you use that metric thingy, 414 horsepower, hence the Evora 414E Hybrid name that we have shortened to Bird Dog).

So see that doesn’t sound like your standard hybrid right?  No, it doesn’t.  That sounds pretty cool.

But wait wait wait…..if it’s electric it’s only going to go like 35 miles before it needs to be recharged.  Well no.

It will only go 35 miles on the electric charge, but like the upcoming Volt it has a range extending gas engine that serves no other purpose but to refill the battery packs.  So theoretically you could drive across the country with it, just stopping every 300 miles like you already do to fill up with gas.  But for daily commutes you use the electric engines only and reill the batteries overnight by plugging it into the wall.

Okay, so what else is there?  Hmmmm

Oh yeah performance….it is quoted that 0-60 will be under 4 seconds, and we expect that handling for the Bird Dog will be on par with the normal gas powered Evora’s.  Plus the Evora looks pretty good too.
