All you need to know is in 10 horsepower and 100lbs.
The 2011 Ford Mustang GT500 details are out. The highlights are:
- 10 more horsepower – Maybe not that much of an increase from the prior year, but the 2011 GT500 will have 550 horsepower and 510 Lb. Ft. of Torque
- 102lbs less weight – That engine now has a aluminum block and weighs a fair amount less. And while 100lbs may not seem like that much, it where the weight is that matters. Taking the weight off of the nose should greatly improve the handling and the most complained part of the 2010 GT500….that it was a bit nose heavy.
- SVT Perfromance Package – Comes with special 19″ (front) and 20″ (back) wheels wrapped in special Goodyear Eagle® F1 SuperCar G: 2 tires that were developed especially for the GT500. Also has totally revised suspension.
What is really interesting is that Ford says the 2011 GT500 is 3 seconds a lap faster than the 2010 version around the same track. 3 seconds. Again, it doesn’t sound like a lot but 3 seconds really is. Watch your next Nascar or F1 race and see how far 3 seconds really is.
Another cool thing to note is that the 2011 GT500 will move off of the govenments gaz guzzler tax penalty rolls. It may not be anything major either, but this 550 horsepower car will get 23mpg and 15 mpg highway and city.
