As our offices are partially located in the St. Louis area I heard something this morning about a 150 mph test drive.  Appears it is true.

St. Louis Motorsportsis an exotic car dealership located in Chesterfield (a suburb on the west side of St. Louis).  I have been there a few times to buy admire a certain Lamborghini.

Apparently what has happened is that a dealership employee thought it a great idea to test drive some of the cars up to 150 mph on public roads and film those adventures.  Seems the police weren’t too happy about this.  But the salesmen thought it was a good idea to give customers a flavour of the vehicles.  Enjoy some of the local Fox News coverage of this below:

Seems to me the worst part about this (beside that if you wreck into someone/something) is that he filmed it.  If your going to do something illicit do not film and post to the world your activities.

Maybe there is something in the water in this town, it wasn’t all that long ago that this happened.  And literally located across the street from St. Louis Motorsports (okay across the interstate….but like 1,000ft away) is this place.

I doubt the charges will stick, despite the high profile arrest. The video from the Fox affiliate shows someone passing cars in the slow lane at what could be an illegal speed. But it’s not great evidence, certainly not as good as testimony from an officer or a report from a radar gun. There’s no calibrated measure of speed there.

These were advertisements for the dealership. They started on the dealership sales floor, walked around the car showing the dealer license plate with number visible, named the driver and cameraman showing both person’s faces, identified the dealership, gave address, telephone number, and email address, showed them driving down easily identifiable streets and highway, showed the speedometer as they hit the top speed of the run, and showed them blasting through rush hour traffic on the shoulder / exit lane. They worked very hard to make absolutely sure they documented their antics in great detail, providing the indisputable proof and the highest level of evidence. In effect, they are testifying against themselves.

I’ve been trying to figure out how he wasnt caught at the time. I see at least 4 cops every time I’m driving. St. Louis is just a bit up tight about speeders.

Maybe dumb luck? I ran 85 mph each time I drove on a controlled access highway in St. Louis last weekend with no problems. Most of that was in a Grand Marquis, maybe they thought I was undercover?
