SEAT Leon

The time has come to say goodbye to my SEAT Leon 1.6 Stylance. I am glad that I get a chance to write a review, as the car has served me well. While it may not be the ‘coolest car in the world’ as I have often referred to it, I still think its a great car.

The time has come to say goodbye to my SEAT Leon 1.6 Stylance. I am glad that I get a chance to write a review, as the car has served me well. While it may not be the ‘coolest car in the world’ as I have often referred to it, I still think its a great car.

First, the basics: The car has all of the ‘expected’ things that I wanted from an equipment standpoint. (Dual Zone Climate Control, CD Player, Electric everything). The 1.6 litre base engine puts out 105 bhp, and to be honest the car needs a bit more than that. The Leon handles very well, and it seems like the 1.6 never really challenges it even close to its limits. Mileage wise, I usually got about 35 mpg in mixed driving, which I thought was a fair trade off for the little bit of missing power.

I think the Leon is a really fun car to drive, and with one of the upgraded engines (1.4 TSI or one of the diesels) would bump the fun factor up to the next level. If you want to get a bit racy, the FR would be a solid choice; while the Cupra would be the way to go if you spend your weekends running around a track.

Personally I like the style of the Leon, and think its the best looking car among its VW group cousins (Golf, Octavia, A3).

I brought the car in for a warranty service once for a rough idle, but other than that and the normal first service it never saw the inside of the repair shop. It also seems to be holding it’s value fairly well, but I can tell you for sure once I sell it!

The Leon is definitly a solid choice, and I think the smart one for people looking at a car in the ‘family hatch’ class. It costs less that most others, is fun to drive, and reliable as well. I have no regrets about mine, and while it’s time to move on, I will certainly remember it fondly.
