So the day has finally come. As the delivery is scheduled for 11:10 am we have shown up to The Welt (BMW World) as soon as they are open in the morning (around 8am) We were greeted at the door by two very nice folks from BMW who introduced themselves, offered to take our bags, and showed us to the VIP lounge.
Here we checked in and they asked us what events we would like to take in. Of course we responded with “we would like to do everything”. Apparently, there wouldn’t have been enough time to do everything prior to 11 am……so the quickly changed our delivery time until later in the day and scheduled a tour of the factory, lunch, BMW insight meeting (they go over special features of the car and BMW), plus gave us lots of time to observe The Welt and the various exhibits.
First we went and sat in VIP lounge and went to the “viewing platform”. Immediately we spotted the new car waiting for us on a turnstile down below…..we began to regret pushing back delivery

But this really wasn’t that bad as we could have hung out in the VIP Lounge for hours. They had loads and loads of refreshmints, snacks, computers, and nice people. It was much like an airline 1rst class lounge, but in someway a bit nicer (at least nicer than the ones we have been in before)

VIP Lounge
From there we went and toured the various exhibits at The Welt and waited for our factory tour. We met up with our tour around roughly 11 a.m. We were paired up with a number of others for the tour and they were spread across a wide variety of nationalities. If fact we may have been the only English speakers in the group, but they did do the tour in English which worked well for us…..though not quite as well as some of the others. After the tour it was time for our lunch. We went to the restaurant on the second level of The Welt and had what is probably one of the best meals I have ever had in Europe. It appears that BMW not only makes nice cars but can make great food as well.
After lunch our delivery time was fast approaching. Once our name came up on the board (there are TV screen showing who is next) we met our delivery agent who took us down in the elevator to a room where they have a number of touch screen computers where he explained the philosophy of BMW and a number of simulators where they had you do a simulation of driving your car and using stability control and traction control. This was okay, but by this point we were ready to pick up the car.
Now the delivery agent brought us to the top of the staircase leading down from the VIP Lounge, from which we could just make out the front of our car. We went do the stairs and were presented with the car spinning on it’s turnstile and went through one of the most detailed delivery processes you can imagine. The great part of it being that the delivery agent will make it as detailed or not as detailed as you would like. For instance this was not our first BMW so we didn’t need a full refresher on everything the car did, but we did need a primer on how to use idrive. The delivery agent was perfectly happy to spend the time on idrive and not dive to much into other areas unless we asked.

After a while we were ready to go. We needed to pick our delivery song and then head out south from Munich on the next leg of our journey. See below for some of the pictures and check back with us in the next few days for our log of events of the next few days….

I never noticed that the 3s have a euro sized plate opening until I saw these pictures. A scan of traffic on the way in to work this morning revealed that this has been the case since at least the E46.
Oh and yes, the car looks awesome.

And what praytell, did you choose as your delivery song?

We went with some Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Child. We actually had it turned up pretty loud…..to the point that the whole Welt could hear it and the delivery agent was smiling with a “ummm I’m not sure if we are supposed to make this much noise look”. It was fun.
But don’t worry you can experience it too. We took a video of the occasion and we will have it posted up soon enough.
